Dan’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is an odd film and very hard to classify or sum up. It's very rarely all that energetic and even with the tension of an intruder in the midst, is mostly people lounging about a villa/mansion/castle.
What makes it stand out is just how strange, but also psychological deep it is. If it wasn't for how oddly all the characters behave, it would be a fairly generic intruder and hostage movie. It could almost be argued these characters live in some sort of apocalypse or fallen society.
There still seems to be an outside world and people who care about society, but then again, everyone has a carelessness to everything that it borders on baffling. You're never quite sure if the owner of this castle is scared about being taken hostage, just mildly annoyed about the inconvenience, or legitimately pleased to have a change of pace. Similarly, it's hard to know if the criminal is a desperate person looking for a way out, or someone glad to have found something to interact with for an extended period. One moment guns will be drawn, the next everyone is taking a nap on the porch.
The most confusing part is it all makes a sort of melancholic sense by the end and the closing shot is so emotionally raw that it makes the entire experience stand out is stark relief.
It's the sort of movie that leaves you feeling a bit excited, a bit confused, maybe a bit sleepy. It's also one I will likely return to in the future just to get another sense of it.
