David Gordon Green’s Halloween manages to be both post-modernistic and completely fucking serious with the concept, a prepper-style Laurie Strode getting ready for the final showdown with Michael Myers. The creative team knows exactly what they’re doing, and doing it with the deepest respect to the fans of the original movie - and sprinkles subtle and fun references to both that one and most of the sequels (yes, even Halloween III). Jamie Lee Curtis owns the character by now and is SO good, creating a vulnerable and hard as stone survivor. All this and witty dialogue, gruesome violence and multi-layered/likable characters in what I consider the best and most satisfying horror film of 2018. Go and see this!
