Knives Out

Knives Out ★★★★

Ain’t no other war.

Plays with some topics that will, for some, prove to be beyond its grasp. I felt as such at times, but it won me over with small details that made me feel like it put in the work. Once I was over that hump, I could sink into all its other joys: Craig’s hamming (would pair well with Logan Lucky), de Armas’ intense vulnerability, all the whodunnit bread crumbs (both narrative and mystery-focused), and what I ultimately felt was some seriously astute commentary. Got a little ahead of it in a way that not only made it a smidge less fun, but also made me feel like it was a little too straightforward, but perhaps instead it’s just really that it had its head on its shoulder all along.
