was really lucky to catch a sneak screening while in singapore, i don't think it'll premier in toronto until september at least. pg13 kore-eda is still pretty devastating and equally as sincere, though he seems to insinuate the darker complexities of his characters that his previous films more unflinchingly lay bare. strong performances across the board and an enormous amount of heart.

Loved it. I was already pretty emotionally volatile on the 16-hour flight where I watched this and I was basically crying every five minutes. Really sweet and warm and human.

    HUH!? WHAT?
NO American director is making movies like this. I had no idea how much I needed a Kaufman film every year until this began. It seems we only get one every recession. Kaufman transcended Jonze and Gondry a long time ago. Metaphysical conversations (or monologues?) on eternal recurrence and the ubiquity of individuality and the television eating us alive and roofies and dance and music and awards for diligence but forever really seeking the award for acumen with every reference to Cassavetes and Wallace and Tolstoy and Kavan and thoughts as words and the person next to you as a projection of yourself and
