took me longer than it should have (until the phone call) to realize this was a movie about cowardice but after that i really got on board with the way it sits with the contradictions of harry dean stanton's mesmerizing portrayal of it

not to take away from corinne marchand's performance at ALL but varda's camera really drifts away from her expression towards city life during so many moments of contemplative dread in this film that the city ~becomes a character~ in a way that so few films spend the time actually committing to.
also feel like there's a lot of modern application specifically to the space cleo occupies as a v1 micro influencer, and the film's decision to treat her worldview and…
