Stray Dog ★★½

Half stars for one solid half, and another unfocused, unnecessary, boring buddy cop police procedural. The story becomes unfocused once it shifts from Murkami redeeming himself by catching Honda to Sato looking for Yusa because it's his fucking job (with Murakami relegated to a side character), but then the plot remembers that Murakami is the one with an emotional attachment to Yusa and deus ex machina's it's way into an exciting final fight between Murakami and Yusa. A film with two protagonists can work, but this ain't it chief.
