Noah’s review published on Letterboxd:
To my own surprise, I liked Ad Astra a lot.
Some will say it’s boring and incoherent. I would say that it’s one of the better and more honest depictions of the vastness and obscurity of space, all the while packaged in a piece that focuses on the way we (humans) experience the incomprehensibility of space. Too many space/sci-fi movies feel like overworked attempts to do the opposite (comprehend the incomprehensible).
Brad’s character really embodies themes of loneliness, despair, and confusion well. With this plus OUATIH the man has had a hell of a year— two outstanding performances.
Visually, this film was stunning and kinda gave me Kubrickian vibes (space odyssey).
