I don't remember what happened in the Poe story and this didn't do any favors reminding me. A lovely cascade of abstract expressionism though, although the floating words were pretty silly, literally putting the subtext right on the screen. Adapting from fiction still in the early days here, I guess.
Five Year Diary, Reel 23: A Breakdown (and) After the Mental Hospital (September 1–December 13, 1982) 1982
Picking up where I left off last winter with Anne Charlotte Robertson because the season's creeping in again and well, yes, this checks all the boxes; fall, winter, art, welfare, love, mental breakdowns. Her split monologues can really rattle your brain and I watched this with headphones which made it feel like she was inside my head, or she's showing me inside hers. It's easier said than done! Maybe one of my favorite ACR reels so far.
Andy Warhol said once (I'm paraphrasing) if you shut down a mall with everything in it, and reopen it a few decades later, it becomes art. That all department stores become museums, and vice versa. He also said he didn't think people died, they just went to department stores.
'Chopping Mall' is the art, the museum, and heaven.
