This is easily del Toro's most underrated film. It's got all of the style and storytelling of his other films wrapped up in a subversive period piece. I loved it a lot more than I was expecting.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
It was just as good on a second viewing. I love seeing Octavia Spencer do genre films. I love del Toro's setups and payoffs. I was able to notice them much more during a second viewing, particularly with stuff like the red shoes and all of the little heist components.
