Birth ★★½

The movie is not as interesting as the idea on which it is based, but it manages to keep alive the question of what is really going on. The most noteworthy scene is a close-up of Nicole Kidman’s face that lasts for a few minutes, showing the viewer what is going through her character’s mind. While there are scenes that—at least in my opinion—strongly suggest which interpretation of the mystery is the correct one, a case can be made for the other possibility; ultimately, however, the movie is not so much about reincarnation and solving the mystery as it is about the nature of love.
