Owning Mahowny ★★★★½

Based on Gary Stephen Ross’s book "Stung: The Incredible Obsession of Brian Molony", this beautifully shot film tells the fascinating story of Dan Mahowny, a banker with a serious and destructive gambling problem. Philip Seymour Hoffman (I am still impressed by his performance in "Capote") is excellent as Mahowny, creating a character one cares about; John Hurt is perfect as Victor Foss, an unscrupulous casino manager; and Chris Collins is noteworthy as Bernie, an employee at Foss’s casino. The scene with Mahowny and his loving girlfriend Belinda (Minnie Driver) in their bathroom is wonderfully acted and moving.
