Peter Ericson’s review published on Letterboxd :
Featuring great ape makeup and more or less obvious references to our society and politics, this unrewarding but technically successful film is uneven in tone and does not realize the potential of its fairly interesting premise. The ending is unexpectedly dark and admittedly effective, but it does not make much sense. Mark Wahlberg gives a lackluster performance; Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Paul Giamatti are quite good in their roles, although the comedic side of Giamatti’s character seems out of place. For better or for worse, the apes in "Planet of the Apes" have more personality and are more interesting than the human characters.
