Primer ★★★★

This decidedly original and very demanding movie, which I first heard about when I read Jason Kottke’s review, involves time travel, but I would say that it is primarily a character study with underlying philosophical themes: its focus is the two main characters’ emotions, morals, relationship with each other, and how they deal with the consequences of the choices they make. The viewer is left to figure out most of the intricate story for themselves, and at least one repeat viewing is almost obligatory; the movie sits securely on my list of movies that really make the viewer think. "Primer" remains fascinating long after the (unusually short) end credits have rolled.
