Slumdog Millionaire ★★★★★

Speaking more to the heart than to the brain, this film is thoroughly compelling, emotionally overwhelming, exuberantly energetic, touching, violent, exciting, humorous, and ultimately uplifting. Everything fits perfectly together, creating a marvelously structured whole that is more than the sum of its parts and an immensely satisfying cinematic experience. The movie ends with a wonderful song-and-dance number featuring the excellent song "Jai Ho". Top-notch acting; Dev Patel charismatically portrays the instantly likeable Jamal Malik; Madhur Mittal masters the difficult role of Salim; Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan are solid; the non-professional child actors give natural and convincing performances. Brilliant direction by Danny Boyle. The stunning cinematography, the deft editing, and the irresistible and memorable score create a strong atmosphere that immerses the viewer in the movie. Based on the book "Q & A" by Vikas Swarup.
