The Backwoods ★★

The film succeeds in creating a somewhat ominous atmosphere, but it is only occasionally engaging and ultimately forgettable. Certain elements of the story are not explained in the film, but it does not take much effort to figure them out. The characters are mostly two-dimensional, making it difficult to connect with and care about them. Mediocre acting, even by Gary Oldman and Paddy Considine, although Oldman has a great moment when the character he plays realizes what is going to happen next and falls to his knees.
