Peter Ericson’s review published on Letterboxd :
The movie is fantasy-themed at its core, but that does not prevent it from maturely dealing with real-world problems that children and teenagers are sometimes forced to face, such as parental separation. I guess many of the books’ details have been left out of the movie, but it never feels like information that is necessary to understand what is happening and why is missing. The special effects are very good. "The Spiderwick Chronicles" is occasionally a bit scary, and, while the movie is funny as well, those scenes are thankfully scary-scary rather than funny-scary.
