Abhay ★★★★½

so far the only writing/directing credit for character actor and television personality annu kappoor, a very strange and precisely layered play on "the canterville ghost" in which a loving family moves into the lavish home of a proud ghost played by nana patekar. what starts off with the expected beetlejuice/high spirits gags slowly transforms into a meditation on the scars visited on the present by the past, and by the time a kind little girl talks a lonely dying man through his passing as they sit on his child's grave under the full moon and a vishal bhardwaj lullaby plays the film has achieved something truly unique.

if anything suspect i'm underrating this.
