shankar in full deconstructive mode is very upsetting. it's impossible to live in a certain kind of society and be sane, to be a shankar hero is to be gripped with (murderous) psychosis. vikram both gets the joke and takes the film completely seriously; the way he shifts between id/ego/superego personalities especially during the interrogation sequence with nasser is a marvel.

the most heartbreaking of shankar's trademark flashbacks, and an end that negates any easy pleasure we might take in the film even more than the conclusions of indian or mudhalvan.
