My Lovely Bindu ★★★½

seems like a self-obsessed writer romances dream girl movie (in his remembering of the events of his life she actually quotes or echoes garden state "this song will change your life etc" as a child) until it is revealed to be something much stranger, a film about a man's inability to understand or try to understand the friend who has been closest to him for most of his life.

very daring in embracing a certain slightness and a little drowned in affectation, but there is an emotional core that cuts, and this is the rare film that can show the passing of years in a way a that explicates the terror a gap of time instills in you when you meet someone you haven't seen in years.

both ayushman and parineeti are great of course - the varying degrees of suffocating/loving family beautifully observed too.
