Naach ★★★½

(yet another) deeply misunderstood ram gopal varma film, not so much a failed attempt at re-creating rangeela as a bittersweet, very personal updating of that film's central relationships by someone much more familiar with the possibilities and heartbreaks of the bombay film industry.

held back by the soundtrack and some of the flashier choreographed numbers, which never quite gel. whenever it slows down and focuses on the three leads it sings. key is that final line, and all the ways it repeats and mutates in meaning throughout the film.
