Bone Tomahawk ★★★★½

This was a goddamn knockout. BONE TOMAHAWK is a deliciously batshit western, filled to the brim with intriguing characters and blood-curdling violence. The first hour works very hard to develop the characters and establish the stakes, and it does it wonderfully. It probably helps that the script is great, with some very flavored off-kilter dialogue that really gives the film some humor and character. Kurt Russell is badass here as a tough-as-nails sheriff and Matthew Fox kills it as a cocky sonuvabitch who's killed a shit-ton of Indians in his day, but it's really Patrick Wilson and Richard Jenkins that steal the show. Wilson is so relatable, as just a typical every-man out to make things right and Jenkins is colossal, embodying this funny old man who might just be the group's saving grace. But nothing in the first hour could possibly prepare you for that majestic finale where we're exposed to brutality after brutality in a very raw manner. It's a powerful payoff and one that really stuck with me. BONE TOMAHAWK is badfuckingass.
