Zach Milne’s review published on Letterboxd:
I used to like the Morbius comics as a teenager, they worked well with the Midnight Sons stories.
Morbius even appeared in the 90's Spider-Man cartoon, so I thought that they might do a good job with it.
Is Jared Leto comic book movie poison? Seems like anytime he appears in a movie based on a comic, it ends up bombing. Hmmmmm........
Honestly, Jared Leto wasn't what made this movie bomb, for me what really left a sour taste was Matt Smith. The Brow was awful and I just couldn't tell if he was intentionally acting like shit or he is that bad an actor.
There were things to enjoy though, I thought the look of Morbius in his vampire form really resembled the comic iteration and I didn't mind more of a focus on all the medical stuff as he is trying to learn about things.
Outside of that though, the story left much to be desired....were Tyrese Gibson and Al Madrigal even necessary? Didn't think the police stuff was needed and was simply included for some humour, maybe.
I wouldn't think that a sequel is needed and I know Sony is trying so hard to set up a Sinister Six movie but I don't really know if I'm digging what they're laying down so far.
