Maybe this isn’t saying much – or anything at all – but “The Martian” is the best thing Ridley Scott has done in at least 10 years. It marries 21st-century tech talk with old-fashioned, crowd-pleasing sentimentalism, and I found myself surprisingly wrapped up in the final rescue mission, as ridiculous as its logistics are. It’s really corny in places, and we sometimes catch it overexerting itself in order to be affable, but it still won me over.
