Congo: White King, Red Rubber, Black Death

A pretty good and in-depth documentary about the Congo/Congo Free State. Points for actually filming in the Congo, and even though it's an obligation for anything about the Congo, I have a soft spot for anything Heart of Darkness so they get bonus points for that.

  • The Frozen Ground

    The Frozen Ground

I almost turned it off halfway through because, other than stock footage of Alaska, every single shot is extreme closeup shakycam. Every. Single. Shot. It's so nauseating that you don't even notice the terrible writing, acting, direction, lighting, and sets. Also, I understand Nick Cage being in this, but Hank from Breaking Bad is in this for some reason. Maybe he was strapped for cash after the show ended.

The smoothness of the animation is neat and the fact that that the celluloid managed to survive for so long is interesting. I enjoyed it for what it is.

    The Boer War: 1899-1902

A fairly standard made-for-TV documentary that doesn't do anything special, but informative on a war I knew little of the details on and has interesting pictures and illustrations. Recommend if you think it would be interesting.
