Crossroads ★★★½

Paris, 1935, diplomat William Powell, newlywed to Hedy Lamarr, expects to become ambassador to Brazil. Powell’s contentment is disrupted when a group of people (Claire Trevor, Basil Rathbone, Margaret Wycherley) demand one million francs, their share of the proceeds from a daring robbery and murder they claim Powell carried out twelve years prior. Powell, who suffers from amnesia about his life before an accident twelve years previously, is confused and fearful. Could he have been a criminal and a murderer? How can he determine the truth?

Powell, a fine actor, suffers nobly from the insinuations of Trevor and Rathbone, who are effectively persuasive and nasty.
