Gold Diggers of 1935 ★★★½

A typical Warner Bros Studio musical comedy of the thirties, directed by Busby Berkeley, with original songs by Harry Warren and Al Dubin. Dick Powell sings and romances Gloria Stuart. The broad and unsubtle comic portion of the plot is capably played by Adolph Menjou, Alice Brady, Hugh Herbert, Frank McHugh, and Glenda Farrell. Berkeley staged elaborate productions for The Words Are in My Heart and Lullaby of Broadway, the latter winning the Academy Award for Best Song of 1935.
