Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman ★★★½

J. Raffles, handsome, charming, debonair, and an outstanding cricketer, is welcome in the homes of the wealthiest. Unknown to his friends, Raffles is also a daring cat burglar who steals for the thrills and danger. Only Raffle’s friend and chronicler, “Bunny” Manders knows the truth about him.

Well-mannered and charming, Raffles is a gentleman thief whose mild adventures are intended to charm and entertain, but not disturb or alarm, the viewer. John Barrymore plays Raffles, and Henry Morgan is Manders in this early silent. The film is based on a series of popular short stories written in England at the turn of the century.
