Private detective Edward Mercer is hired to find a man, Renzo Uccello, in Venice. During the war Uccello saved the life of a downed American flyer, and the flyer’s grateful father wants to reward him. This seemingly innocent mission soon takes on sinister aspects. The first person to offer information about Uccello is murdered. Mercer is also attacked. Mercer finds a memorial that seems to prove that Uccello is dead, but other evidence indicates that he is alive. Who is concealing the whereabouts of Uccello? Why? What are the connections between Uccello and the beautiful Adriana and the powerful Count Boria?
This mystery thriller stars Richard Todd, John Gregson, and Eva Bartok. Fine location shooting utilizes the streets and canals of Venice to good effect.
