We're only 2 entries into this 5-movie franchise and it already feels like the story is being stretched out to fill a quota. A lot of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald feels like it's setting up for things in the next 3 movies. But this movie doesn't feel that stagnant. The plot does move along and the mythology of the Wizarding World is deepened.
Unfortunately, the movie is really boring and as much as it expands the universe, it just isn't interesting to me in the least bit. There are a few set pieces and action beats but for the most part, this is a drama between Newt and his friends as well as a story about choosing sides in whatever is to come with Grindelwald and his followers.
