2019 Weekly Comedy Challenge: 5/52 - (Week 5: A comedy featuring a female comedy duo.)
This was my first Howard Hawks movie and my first Marilyn Monroe movie. I thought it was fine. I can absolutely see why Marilyn Monroe was such a mega star sex symbol. She was stunning in the movie and her charisma and the way she played Lorelei as playfully dim-witted was really fun to watch.
Jane Russell also did a great job playing the more straight and sardonic Dorothy. The pair of Russell and Monroe balanced each other very well and made for a really fun watch. It's a shame they never teamed up again. I would have liked to see more of them together.
The musical numbers are enjoyable. I think the fact that I just recently watched Singin' in the Rain for the first time set a musical standard in my mind that Gentlemen Prefer Blondes could never really beat. I'm sure if I see this movie again I'll appreciate the musical numbers more.
