Happy Death Day is surprisingly enjoyable despite being pretty silly and not all that suspenseful. It reminded me a bit of some of the lesser 90s teen slashers (Urban Legend, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Valentine, etc). But the movie has fun with its premise and deftly keeps its tongue in its cheek without going into full blown parody. I feel like it could have benefited from an R rating because the horror elements didn't do much for me. It could have used a little more edge and violence. All things considered, for a PG-13 horror movie, they got away with plenty but it still felt by the numbers.
