Matt Hurt’s review published on Letterboxd:
I'm so surprised by how much I enjoyed Venom. It's not a great movie and the visual effects are average at best. But Tom Hardy's performance is so much fun and his interactions with the voice of Venom in his head hit me in a way I wasn't expecting. It's a joy.
The action can be a little incoherent at times. There's a chase scene that is a little too dependent on tight shots, presumably to cut corners on visual effects. But the climax reminded me of the climax of The Incredible Hulk, which is to say it is really fun.
But seriously, Tom Hardy's performance is what makes this a fun time at the theater. I felt like I had my own symbiote in my head telling me that I would watch several Venom movies starring Tom Hardy. Turns out, I just really liked this movie.
