Slow and pretentious
I feel like there's some kind of mass delusion that this is a good film. The core story of Fergus and Dil is not enough to redeem the astonishing casting of Whitaker (am overweight soldier with supposed British accent?), incessant dialogue saying the other's name at the end of every sentence, plot holes galore, and kitsch dream sequences.
I guess it won awards for the shock factor that was a thing in 1992 but in 2021 was pretty obvious.
