Sam Williams’s review published on Letterboxd:
A Day in the Country is very impressive in terms of craft. The atmosphere Renoir creates is extremely enticing. There's no way to watch this film and not long to be out in the world, communing with nature afterwards. Unfortunately, the film also features one of the more egregious examples of the "rape her til she wants it" trope. While I don't expect old works of art to comply with 21st century ethical norms, those scenes lessened my enjoyment of the film considerably.
