Don't get me wrong, Hereditary was a great movie, but it's sort of a hodge podge of other horror styles, where Midsommar is Ari really grasping his own style. This is NOTHING like Wicker Man, like I've heard people say.
Florence Pugh seriously deserves so many accolades and awards, her screaming and crying near the beginning had me even more shaken than Toni Collete in Hereditary.
And holy shit, this is one of the most gorgeous movies I've ever seen. Every scene is incredibly beautiful. I also liked that the symbolism is much more subtle this time around.
And holy shit, THAT scene is one of the nastiest things I've seen in a theatrical R rated film. If you've seen it you'll know what I'm talking about.
Pretty damn sure this is a horror masterpiece, I cant wait to see where Ari Aster takes us next.
