Steve Kimes’s review published on Letterboxd:
Genius script, amazing performance by Matt Damon, and perfectly timed effects make this the most enjoyable film of 2015 so far.
This could have easily been "Cast Away on Mars", but the script shares the time between NASA and Matt Damon on Mars and give Damon some great comedy to work with in his video journal. Thus, instead of a simple "rescue" film or a simple "survival" film, it is a good blend of both. It shows how science is both a matter of genius and of group effort. And how easily things go wrong in a practical application of science.
