Olivia S.’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's been awhile since a film has given me actual chills.
It's now the day after I went and watched The Babadook, and I still can't stop thinking about it. It is a film filled to the brim with dread, pain, anxiety, grief, and depression. These emotions are apparent from the outset, and continue to build throughout the film, eventually manifesting themselves through the appearance and looming presence of the Babadook himself.
This was without a doubt, the best film I have seen this year, and I can only hope that future horror films take note of the successes of The Babadook, and can leave me with the same sense of genuine fear--of not only things that go bump in the night, but of my own psyche.
Oh, and the sound design is fucking amazing.
