In 2019, this movie made me feel so much nostalgia for a time I never knew.
In 2020, the montage of the Los Angeles montage, especially the Cineramadome turning on their lights and inviting in customers, feels so much different. It’s genuinely a portrait for a time we will never get back.
Tarantino finds hope in sadness, catharsis in savagery and with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, he creates the idea of a whole other world, rooted in the one we knew before, but just a little bit better.
