Omar 📼’s review published on Letterboxd:
First off I wanna point out that Zack Snyder has given us another movie in which he kills Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the opening sequence. In slow motion, no less.
Anyway...this movie has a lot of problems. Like how half of it is so meandering and disjointed that I didn't care about a lot of it and was actively scrapping scenes in my head that I didn't need for a full understanding of the story. Which was a lot of the Lois stuff.
I didn't like the constant man/god bullshit that Lex was spewing the.entire.time...In the sequel (?) to his own movie, all Superman did was serve angsty looks.
Now here's what I loved about it. The music. Ben Affleck. The Justice League setups, Mercy Graves being fine as fuck, Diana Prince being the badass she's always been, THE KNIGHTMARE SEQUENCE!. A scene so visually strong and brutal and masturbatory that only Zack Snyder could've pulled it off and it still managed to be better than the entirety of Sucker Punch.
I was entertained by this film. I'm excited for where the DCEU is headed and I'll reserve my judgement for those stories until I see them. I know there's a lot of hate and disappointment but it's mostly from people who would never deign to pick up a comic book or have clung too hard to Marvel or Nolan so I wipe my ass with those reviews. Go see it. Get excited about comics and movies and don't be an asshole about it if you don't like it.
