Love Exposure ★★★

Love Exposure successfully intertwines a number of themes but is especially attuned to religion, family, and identity. Sono amazingly steers away from both the conventions of narrative storytelling as well as the conventions of our society -  commonplace religious institutions and norms reflecting our every day behaviors and mannerisms are challenged; i can see how this film is forwardly transgressive stylistically and narratively. however... i just couldn’t get into it at all - this rating is more personal than anything. i didn’t click with anyone or anything, and i don’t think a rewatch will exactly fix this. it just wasn’t for me.
