    Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

    A second viewing of Once...Hollywood convinced me that this is a masterpiece, bumping itself up from my top 10 of the year to my top 3. And while I haven't seen Tarantino's entire filmography, I believe this is my new favorite.

    This film spills over with the primary characteristic that makes a movie one of my favorites; that it can be enjoyed from one level of sheer, mindless popcorn entertainment, and it can be enjoyed just as much (if not more) on a level of deep, detailed analysis, critique, and study.

    I loved watching this movie and becoming increasingly convinced that not a single accidental was ever present: that every single detail, from the camera angles to the wardrobe choices to the seemingly throwaway 60's references, were all wholly intentional. My first viewing of this movie was an absolute blast that truly shocked and thrilled me.     Thank you Drew Goddard. THIS is how you make a multi-main-character story where all the threads come together. So much is said and so much is wisely left unsaid. Every performance is stellar. The presentation -- which occasionally shows the same scene multiple times from different perspectives -- is edited to perfection, with some shocks and transitions that made me gasp or applaud or exclaim. It all comes together for a finale that resonated with me on a profound level and managed to make almost all of the main characters sympathetic. What a work of art!
