    Alien: Covenant is a dreary, intellectually stagnant exercise. Everything that made Alien brilliant has been reproduced and defiled with extreme over-emphasis. The crew of the Nostromo were believable, severe, blue-collar human beings. We didn't need backstories and endless emotional breakdowns because they were real - their histories could be inferred from performance, their primal fears detectable in something as slight as a facial twitch.
