Food is an intrinsic part of being human. And like most human activities it’s not simple, it’s enmeshed in culture, industry, class, sexuality. This movie explores food from every angle and has some real fun in the process.
There are hilarious, erotic, horrific and endearing moments in this movie, so many tangents and small stories that somehow all come together. But it all comes down to two things community and craft.
Things are beautiful because of the people, craft and time it takes to make them not because they Are signifiers of class.
“The world breaks everyone, and afterwards many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break, it kills - it kills the very good, and the very gentle, and the very brave, impartially. If you are none of these, you can be sure it will kill you, too, but there will be no special hurry”
