"Something very wrong with that horse."

Well i expected this film to be total garbage. Based on all of the reviews i've ever read for the film, and how poorly it did at the box office, i really was expecting to hate every second of this film. But honestly i don't understand why this film was rated so poorly. No it's not brilliant and there is a lot wrong with the film, but it is nowhere near awful. There are plenty of much worse films out today that get nowhere near as much stick as this film did.

Plot wise, this film follows a fairly cliche revenge tale. The plot is unfortunately very predictable from start to finish. You know exactly who's going to die, who's going to do what and when it's all going to happen. There really is nothing special here in terms of plot. Fortunately this is one of those films where the plot is just there to drive the action, and the movie isn't ruined by its predictability.

In terms of the action, this film is full of it. However that's not necessarily a good thing. Most of the films action and set pieces heavily rely on CGI. They try to be big and in your face which is really mostly annoying. Some of the scenes are enjoyable, especially near the opening, however by the time the final act comes along, it was kind of the same thing over again and was mildly annoying.

The two leads were really the saving grace for me. Both actors did a really good job. They worked well on screen together and really made me interested in their characters. While Johnny Depp was basically just playing an Indian version of Captain Jack Sparrow to a degree, it's what he does well and, while not his best performance, it was still highly enjoyable.

In conclusion, this film had a lot wrong with it. This really isn't helped by the two and a half hour run-time, with the theme at the end going on for far too long and making the climax annoying as hell to watch. However the film was funny, it had some good action, it worked well as a kids movie while still being dark and enjoyable for adults, the leads were great and it was beautifully shot. The cinematography at times is just perfect. Personally you may hate this film, but i would suggest you give it a try and decide for yourself.
