Not horror. Not action. Not comedy. Malignant is in a word, multifaceted. It's horror, action & it's comedy whenever it wants to be. It walks the finest of lines without fully falling into campy & is delivered straight-faced enough to hold the project together scene to scene. James Wan & Michael Burgess knocked it out of the Park on Malignant with stunning visuals time & time again leading to some truly incredible moments with the camera.
Found footage can be easy to deliver on but even easier to fail at. AS ABOVE SO BELOW falls somewhere short on both sides. With plenty of backstories & SOME follow-through, it just doesn't seem to deliver in the end. The limited special effects were just that limited. As a found footage film As Above So Below deserves more credit. It has its pitfalls, but I personally believe it is a high point in the genre of found footage. Just not…
1BR is a unique concept that surprised me & held my attention throughout. I went into this movie expecting it to be just another home invasion film, I was completely wrong & couldn't have been happier about that. I could be one of the few that think this could open a door for a few if not just one more sequel to dive deeper into the world-building that does take place.
Nicole B. Bloom really stands out in this featured role.
