La Jetée

La Jetée ★★★★

Rewarding science fiction (if a genre must be applied) document that feels like a personal gift that has been lying in wait. This is a film that has been plagiarised and plundered by all films sci-fi, from Clockwork Orange to Source Code and The Matrix to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind via Twelve Monkeys, all whom owe a serious debt to Marker's dystopian vision.

This visually astounding collection of still frames, tethered together by the searching and arresting tones of Trevor Duncan, manages to achieve an over arching, forlornly hopeful atmosphere in just a mere twenty-six minutes, that dwarfs almost all of it's modern, lengthier counterparts.

Terrific.
