When it’s a devastating Bergman riff examining the suppressed fucked-upedness of familial relationships it actually kind of achieves greatness. But then, no matter how generally well executed the film is once it wholeheartedly veers into supernatural/occult territory, it also ends up being a fairly underwhelming hodge-podge from then on out.
