“Okay, Irene. Won’t that be the day?”
watched this in honor of the greatest filmmaker of all time’s birthday. first time in a long time where i’ve watched a movie with my headphones at maximum volume because why not (gotta take advantage of criterion’s remastered 5.1 surround soundtrack somehow). this still just knocks me flat on my ass; the opening jitterbug sequence is hypnotic, that jump scare is still as absolutely petrifying as i remember it being on my first viewing, lynch’s surrealism and constant cutting to seemingly irrelevant events has never been better, and i just simply can’t believe that this was watts’s first major role and breakthrough performance. lynch’s greatest movie (because y’all are bitches and the return “”doesn’t count as a movie””).
