Eve's Bayou

Eve's Bayou ★★★★½

I've only seen this film once, when it was first released, but that was all I needed to completely grasp its chilling, atmospheric story of a 1960's family in Lousiana, who fall victims to secrets, lies, and voodoo.

The female stars of the film, including Debbie Morgan and Jurnee Smollett, are incredible; Kasi Lemmons, also a woman, writes and directs her first feature with an uncommon richness.

Why isn't she directing more films?
