    Dune

    ★★½

I'm trying but I simply cannot recall seeing a movie I was more unimpressed by especially given all the hype and buzz associated with it. Dune is a perfect example of the kind of filmmaking I hate. The sound editing is godawful. It may have rewarded people in the theater but at home I had to deal with lines that are delivered barely above a whisper only the find myself frantically reaching for the remote as a loud sound affect…

    They Crawl Beneath

    ★★½

I like to give smaller budget indie films a fair chance and not judge it with the same criteria I would larger studio films... but They Crawl Beneath was just bad. On the surface it sounds like this movie could have worked, it's about a guy who gets trapped under his uncle's car while they're working on it, the uncle swiftly perishes and it's up to the nephew to free himself and get out of the garage before a giant…

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Ever get the impression you were pitched a movie that you didn't get? The trailers seem to imply this was a movie about the Sharon Tate murders and that was just a small part of it (a very small part) that didn't impact the plot of the movie at all. It almost seems like an afterthought than anything Tarantino invested any effort in developing. The movie is largely about an aging leading man who's star is fading and his friendship…

    A Ghost Waits

    ★★★★½

This is one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in the past year. A Ghost Waits can best be described as a paranormal romantic comedy. It involves a man who fixes up properties to be sold and ghost who's job is to scare people out of this house for reasons that are never fully explored. I feel it would be a disservice to further go into it but trust me it's a charming indie film that has a lot of heart.
